During the exploration of the route of The Exodus I was required, of course, to delve into biblical geography.
As is well known, Kadesh is one of the most famous stops on the journey. However, Kadesh is also mentioned in connection with the place where Abraham lived (and Abraham traveled from there to the land of the Negev and settled between Kadesh and Shur, and sojourned in Gerar) and in connection with the sojourner's flight.
A thorough investigation of these connections raised the suspicion that the current identification of Eretz Gerar was incorrect. This opened a "Pandora's Box", the investigation of which lasted about 6 years: The more I delved into the subject, the more I realized that our understanding of biblical geography was incorrect, including the identification of places that are now considered pillars.
A clash with the accepted geographical concepts in academia and the public became inevitable. I feared that if this matter were to be doubted, it might also raise controversy regarding the study of the Exodus. Of course, I could not take such a risk, and therefore I decided to separate the issue of geography from the issue of the Exodus, and to devote a separate and extensive framework to it.
The online encyclopedia "Biblical Geography" Presents geographical and historical information about approximately 400 biblical places and events.
Because the information is very detailed and full of quotes from ancient sources, also written in foreign languages (Aramaic, Greek, Latin, and Arabic), it is intended for those knowledgeable in the fields of history or archaeology.
Here, on this portal, I will present the information in focused articles. In a way that will also allow the general public to become familiar with the research findings and its implications, in a language that is clear and understandable to all.
Dear readers,
One of the main goals of this portal is to serve as a means of communication between me and you. You are invited to express your opinions, ask questions, clarify issues, and conduct an open, in-depth, and reasoned discussion on all aspects of biblical geography. All responses will be brought to my attention, and I will endeavor to respond to all of them.
